Cable Factory / Kaapelitehdas

Cable Factory / Kaapelitehdas (Tallberginkatu 1C 15, Helsinki) — Cable Factory has a history of manufacturing telegraph, electricity and telephone lines for Nokia from 1942 to 1985. In 1989, Nokia had a newspaper ad for renting its defunct factory. This ad was seen by group of artists and designers who decided to built their own cultural facility in the building.  The building was converted in 1991 into a fully independent cultural center aimed at providing an area of artistic diversity with cross-cultural linkages. Today, Cable Factory encompasses activities from events, performances (sometimes by House music DJs) and artist’s studios to small museums.  Hours:  8:30 am – 10 pm (Monday-Friday), 12 pm – 10 pm (Saturday).
